The Spark Shaker was designed for Bish Bash productions, led by percussionist Sudha Kheterpal, to be manufactured and distributed in Africa.
The Spark shaker is a combination between a musical instrument and an energy harvesting module. As the shaker is used to produce music, the energy harvesting module inside the shaker stores the energy produced whilst playing it, for future use. The shaker has a jack and USB outputs so that lights and mobile phones can be charged using the energy stored in the internal battery.
In Kenya 75% of the population live without access to electricity. The Spark shaker will provide an alternative means to create free energy using the power of music. (The Shake your Power team traveled to Kenya recently to document and introduce the Spark shaker to local schools and institutions)

The concept of the shaker is based on the heart; the seat of power for the human body, a symbol of strength and courage and what connects us all as a global community. Just like the heart, the Spark shaker has internal chambers where the shaking beads are stored and separated from the technology inside.
The outside design of the shaker is based on the concept of a flint stone. It refers to new beginnings; to the initial spark caused by two flint stones contacting each other to give birth to a powerful new source of energy.
